  • Nice features for the money5 star rating
by TechSwami from Riverside, California on August 8, 2008 at Best Buy
"I bought this camera this week. I have been tracking the prices on it for several months and it finally fell in the price range that I felt comfortable with. I am new to the field of photography. I have had digital cameras in the past but never a real camera like this one. one of the main reasons I chose a DSLR was so I would not lose my shots any more waiting 2-3 seconds for the digital sensor to capture a photo every time. None of that with this camera. I purchased a high speed sd card with this and it takes awesome pictures on the fly with very little setup time required. Even though I am still learning about all the features on this camera...I'm loving it!"

  • Go buy it!! Best DSLR ever5 star rating
by Santosh from Columbus OH on May 1, 2008 at Best Buy
"Four and a half years have passed since the first affordable digital SLR from Canon; the EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). In that time we have witnessed two further iterations (the EOS 350D and EOS 400D) leading up to todays fourth generation EOS 450D, with twice the megapixel count of the original (twelve versus six) in a smaller body with a far wider range of functionality and features and a $200 lower list price. Since those heady days in 2004 when the EOS 300D was the only kid on the block we've seen Nikon, Pentax and Olympus all attempt to hit the same sweet spot of size, features and price at the 'lower end' of the DSLR market, with varying degrees of success. Without a doubt the EOS 450D will have to do more today to prove itself against the popular Nikon D40 / D40X / D60 and to a lesser degree the Pentax K200D and Olympus E-420.12 megapixel CMOS sensorThe 450D features a new, 12.4 megapixel sensor. It has 12.2 million effective pixels. Further down the line, the A/D converter is capable of relaying 14 bit information to the camera's image processor or as a 14-bit RAW file. This should, in theory at least, offer smoother gradation steps in the final images.12 megapixel CMOS sensorThe 450D features a new, 12.4 megapixel sensor. It has 12.2 million effective pixels. Further down the line, the A/D converter is capable of relaying 14 bit information to the camera's image processor or as a 14-bit RAW file. This should, in theory at least, offer smoother gradation steps in the final images.SD / SDHC CardThis is also the first entry-level Canon DSLR to use the Secure Digital format. It's a popular format with the compact digital camera owners Canon will be hoping to lure into DSLR ownership. SDHC is now available in similar sizes and speeds to the CF format used by the 300D, 350D and 400D.Larger viewfinderA big step forwards for Canon's entry-level DSLR is the larger viewfinder. It's unlikely to be as bright as the ones found in Canon's XXD models because it uses mirrors, rather than a glass prism but in terms of magnification (size), it's almost on a par with the 30D which was a considerably more expensive camera. It's unusual to see viewfinder specs mentioned when comparing DSLRs but they can make a really big difference to usability.Spot meteringA regular criticism of Canon's Rebel range has always been the lack of a spot metering mode. Spot metering is a tool that many photographers find invaluable, particularly when setting manual exposures in difficult-to-capture high contrast scenes. Previously only available on XXD-level cameras, we're delighted to see spot metering appear on the 450D (central 4% of the frame).Multi-shot self-timer modeThe 450D gains the ability to take multiple shots each time the self-timer is used. If you're trying to appear in a group shot and don't want to have to keep running back to the camera, it could prove a really useful feature.3.0" LCDOne of the most obvious external differences between the 450D and its predecessor is the inclusion of a huge 3 inch LCD screen. It's got the same number of pixels as the one on the 400D (which means it's actually lower resolution), but, considering it doubles as the camera's settings screen, the extra size should be useful.Verification dataThe 450D adds the "original decision data" option that cropped up on the 40D. This appends a piece of data in the image file, based on certain aspects of the original image. This data would no longer correspond if the image were changed, allowing users to prove the veracity of an image. (Which requires the OSK-E3 security kit)"

  • Best Cam in its class!!5 star rating
by JRofTexas from TX on May 20, 2008 at Best Buy
"Got my XSi for about a couple of weeks now. Did a lot of research and tests prior to purchase. My choices were narrowed down to this, the Nikon D80 and Sony A350 which were all in the same price range and are all Excellent DSLR's. Went to a lot of BB Stores and Circuit Citys as well. Brought my own SD and CF cards for image test storage. Took over a hundred shots for my test Photos in which all cams were used in similar settings. Printer I used for the test was Epson Stylus R220 on an 8 1/2" x 11" Kodak UPP Prints and viewed on my Dell E248WFP 24" Monitor. And here's the Verdict...Though the XSi didn't top the 3 cams I tested in terms of features availability and cam ergonomics... It Convincingly outperformed the Nikon and the Sony in terms of Picture Quality which is really the WHOLE POINT of having a Good DSLR.Also adding to this is the fact that Canon has the most extensive lineup of Good Quality lenses other than 3rd party manufacturers.Bottom line is... The XSi is the BEST DSLR in the Entry to Mid Level Range. Perfect for a Hobbyist!!"

  • Excellent buy!!!5 star rating
by shutterbug22 on May 23, 2008 at Best Buy
"This was an excellent purchase!! I seem to have a bit of a disease which causes me to want a new camera every year. I've had the xt for 2 years now and LOVE IT!! When the xsi came out I started watching for sales religiously until I couldn't stand it anymore. I simply fell in love with the 3" LCD right off the bat. It allows you to see your image so much clearer and bigger to know if you got "the shot". The menu is very easy to get to and understand and the picture quality is EXCELLENT! The IS lens is spectacular and from now on I will only buy them. Something that doesn't bother me but might bother other people is, when I upload them onto different sites on the internet (ie. photobucket, myspace, facebook...etc) I often have to resize the image due to it's massive file size. The sites mentioned have a size requirement that you must be under in order to upload. Like I said, it doesn't bother me at all!Highly recommended!!!!"

  • Excellent camera5 star rating

"This is an excellent camera. This is my second Canon DSLR after the Digital Rebel and I love it. I can feel the difference just holding this one. The maturity of this product is evident from the controls and the features as well as the picture quality. Live view is awesome and very useful in certain conditions. All in all, very happy with the camera. This is a keeper."

  • MY new camera5 star rating
by atpcoll1 from L.C.,La on April 13, 2008 at Best Buy
"The image stabilzation is wonderful. I have other cameras that have "image stabilization" but honestly none compare to this. I am pretty new at photography so I have a lot to learn about this camera but in the auto setting it still takes professional looking pictures. I have been dissapointed in the past with my pictures but with this camera it does all the work and it makes me look like I know what I am doing. I look forward to learning more and taking more pictures."

  • Great Camera5 star rating
by JoshH2 from Beaverton, OR on November 5, 2008 at Best Buy
"I've had this camera a little over a month now and am absolutely loving it. I have had a few digital cameras and decided it was time to move up to a SLR. I had become frustrated at how any movement in low-light shots on my point and shoot came out blurry and grainy. This camera has fixed that problem and does an amazing job with action shots. I bought the package with the 18-55 and 75-300 lenses. I have taken some amazing pictures at motorcycle races that would make you think the bike was standing still. My only gripe would be the lcd contrast. While taking the pictures outdoors in full sun the pictures looked a lot darker than they were so I adjusted the exposure and most of my pictures were washed out. Other than that it's a great camera and pretty easy to use for a first-time DLSR user."

  • Should have bought it first before the Nikon D605 star rating
by greywoods from Allegan, MI on December 29, 2008 at Best Buy
"I first bought a Nikon D60 and was very dissapointed with it. The XSi feels much better and higher quality materials. I don't use live view for all shots but it is very nice to have when the situation is right. without reading the user guide I felt that I knew the camera good after a few hours of playing around with it. There are many funtions that I will not use but after a class I can grow into it. I am satitsfied and do not regret buying the Canon after retuning the Nikon D60."

""It's a canon, it's a SLR, what more do you need to know. The only downfall which i'm not even sure if it's me or the camera is that when you use the live view function you have to manually focus even while in auto-focus."

  • Very nice for the price5 star rating
by OldRebel from Northern Idaho on September 22, 2008 at Best Buy
"My interest in photography comes and goes. I've had film SLRs in past years but frankly got tired lugging around a big bag of camera gear on vacations and such. So some time ago I opted for good point-and-shoot cameras, both film and digital.Recently my interest has reemerged and I used a family wedding as an excuse to get back into the SLR business. I tend to study a thing a death before making a decision on pricy items. In this case I weighed my needs and budget and narrowed my choices down to the Nikon D60 and the Canon Rebel XSi. They are very close in function and performance but for my needs, the Canon XSi edged out the Nikon. The XSi has all the options and features nearly anyone could ever need. It is lightweight and controls are conveniently located (better than the Nikon). I also got the 55-250mm lens with image stabilization and together with the standard 18-55 IS lens, this makes a great package. I suggest the novice read up a little bit on general photography terms and definitions to fully utilize all the features available.I also use my little pocket sized digital point-an-shoot too but the Rebel XSi really does make a big difference. I know it takes great wedding pictures.Okay, enough said. I like my Canon XSi. It's great. Catch it on sale and it's even better."
