Midway Games Inc. (NYSE: MWY), a leading interactive entertainment software publisher and developer, today announced Mortal Kombat® vs. DC Universe, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. When a cataclysmic force merges conquerors from two universes, conflict is inevitable. Kombat forces friends to fight, worlds to collide, and unlikely alliances to be forged. In order to save all they know, the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat must wage war against the combined might of the DC Universe (DCU). How can either side prevail when rage blinds them to the dark threat poised to destroy them all?

For the first time ever Scorpion, Sub Zero and the warriors from Midway’s billion-dollar fighting franchise face off against Batman, Superman and other iconic and powerful DC Super Heroes, featuring signature attacks for both sides and a unique and intertwining storyline, written as a collaboration between the Mortal Kombat creative team and top comic scribes Jimmy Palmiotti (Painkiller Jane, Marvel Nights, Jonah Hex, 21 Down) and Justin Gray (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, JLA Classified, Punisher Red X-Mas, The Resistance) MK vs. DCU is slated to ship for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in Fall 2008.

“It is a truly unique and extremely exciting effort to be teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics for the first Mortal Kombat game on next generation platforms,” said Ed Boon, co-creator and executive producer for Mortal Kombat at Midway Amusement Games. “The DC Universe characters are some of the most popular and enduring characters in the world. By combining them with the Mortal Kombat mythology, all new gameplay modes and features, plus a completely unique storyline crafted by top comic writers, players will now be able to answer the question: what would happen if Batman fought Sub Zero?”

“Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will provide a wide audience of fans and gamers match-ups of their favorite characters in battles like they’ve never experienced before,” said Scott Johnson, Vice President, Business Development for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Midway’s new Mortal Kombat gameplay paired with DC Comics’ popular characters will offer players a multitude of combat options and incredible face offs.”

“For the first time, players will be able to go toe to toe with DC and MK characters in both arena and story mode,” said John Nee, Senior Vice President, Business Development for DC Comics. “We’ve worked very closely with Midway to bring an authentic DCU flavor to their Kombat and the result features our characters like they’ve never been seen before.”

Best MK game In 12 Years!!!5 star rating
by Freeplayinc on November 16, 2008 at EBGames
This is a Must buy if you love the Original MK series (1,2,3 U3) you will love this, everything is done perfectly! the new rage made and free fall fighting is awesome! the only thing that could have made this game any better would be to have been to add a few more player to select from but the story mode is great and arcade mode is too I just have to test out the online play but i think that will be just as good, many people said there was not going to be any blood and that a teen rating was going to make this game lame and there is Blood and I think that games that now swear and have drug reference have made the new NC17 rating what it is today, anyway this game has it all and then some so don't delay in picking it up it's worth every penny and I think this will hold me over till Street Fighter IV comes out next year!

Just another fighting game2 star rating

"If you are looking for somethng new in the fighting game genre... this is not it. Given the improvements with the last few installments of the Mortal Kombat franchise, this new game looks as if it should have been done long ago. Gone are the individual fighting styles, and massive roster of playable characters. They have been replaced with less than impressive button sequence in-game mini-games, and a somewhat interesting Rage meter. The Story Mode is terribly short, and there's really nothing else offered here beyond that. Other games in this genre offer more for the same price, or less."

  • Watered down a lot but this is decent game4 star rating
by Jabari from Tampa, Fl on November 17, 2008 at Best Buy
"I just purchased this game and normally I rent something before I buy it but that wasn't the case with this. I went to MANY different sites and read the reviews and pretty much no what to expect. The game has been watered down a lot as far as the fatalities but it's still a decent game. It has only half the kombatants as the last MK installment which isn't a plus but they did a great job with whom they chose. They really should have added a ton of more characters and I don't quite understand the watered down fatalities other than trying to appeal to a younger market but I am still satisfied. The fighting engine is newly designed and the rage mode is interesting and some of the combinations you can pull off our outstanding. Overall for the money (43 bux because on sale and had gift card) this is a great addition to my collection and something to keep me occupied until Street Fighter 4 rolls around in February. Face it. Soul Caliber is exactly like last version and Tekken 6 is a long way off and Virtua Fighter is pretty boring so we don't have a lot of options when it comes to fighting games. For what's out there this is a good buy and certainly something to hold you over until Street Fighter."

"Multiplayer and online is great. The stroy mode is repetitive, boring, and pointless. I wish there was a different mode beside these three otherwise gameplay and online are what this game is sold on."

"Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder promo on mtv said it best, Ironman was good at least until Dark Knight comes out. So it seems that MK vs DC is good until Street Fighter comes out. I've been playing these fighting games from arcade to console and MK seemed almost the other fighting game to Street Fighter. Also Capcom vs Marvel came first as well. I am not a MK fan, I kept trying to use SF buttons and moves, but I bought this game based on the ability to play the DC characters. It was easy enough to pick up that my 7 and 11 yro boys picked it up easy. Even my wife got a kick out of being able to play Wonder Woman. For purest of fighting games may prefer Soul Caliber or Tekken, or MK fans my want the blood and gore back, this seemed like it was designed for the casual gamer. Hence the new modes (Klose Kombat and freefall). It's just fun to be able to play Batman vs Joker."

"I got this game for christmas and I like it alot. The graphics are great and I like playing the story mode. The game is not too hard so you won't get frustrated as easy as with some of the other MK games but its not too easy either. The only problem I have with this game is that they should have put more characters in it but still a good choice of characters. I would recommend this game to others if they like fighting games."
