The contributors to From Barbie® to Mortal Kombat explore how assumptions about gender, games, and technology shape the design, development, and marketing of games as industry seeks to build the girl market.

New York Times Book Review - Herz

C.J.[The authors] have pulled together an academic anthology about what women, or rather girls, want from computer games....If computer games manage to transcend [the boy/girl] dichotomy...digital entertainment may yet mature into something like pop music or television or movies....driven by juvenile consumers, they have managed to cross the gender divide.

This book sucks. Note the cover. One is Barbie the other Sarah Bryant from Virtua Fighter. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of glaring falsehoods and misinterpretations to be found in this volume. Avoid this agenda filled propagandance.
