Where and how we spend our income fluctuates as we move through our lives. Different obligations, such as school loans, home mortgages, and children, required various amounts of resources. Below, we take a look at just how much of our discretionary income changes over time.
I highly doubt ANY student has that amount of discretionary income. I surely didn’t. On average you worked about 30 hours a week for the year [this takes into account summer jobs, no work over holidays and slow periods]. The job I had pays about $12/hour now. $12 x 30 hours x 52 weeks = $18,720 a year BEFORE taxes. Clearly something is wrong with your numbers! $4,000 only on a car? Umm there are people with $750/month car payments!

Transportation costs simply should not be that high.
