This is the second Sony marine stereo I have had to replace in 3 months due to the faceplate not working. Thankfully for the remote control, I was able to use the stereo, but in both stereo's the faceplace become unresponsive. I bought my boat in June, and had to replace the stereo for this reason in September. the boat had a Sony marine stereo in it when I bought it, so I replaced it with another sony Marine Stereo... and within a week, I had the exact same issue as the first one. Stay away from the Sony's and go with the Kenwood or Clarion marine stereos.

I recently installed this stereo in my sailboat. The Main selling point for me was the wireless remote controller. This allows me to change stations, modes. volume etc. without having to leave the helm or the cockpit. Those that sail know how risky it is to go below just to adjust the entertainment center and leave the helm unattended...even with an auto-pilot. The remote removes all of the risks and provides much safer boating. I didn't install new speakers yet, so I can't comment on the fidelity but I suspect it's very good just because of the other features and the way they work/look so well. From my helm to the radio in the cabin is about 15 feet and the remote is well within it's range. I plugged in my ipod and then a Sansa MP3 player...Both worked fine. I bought the connecting cable at Bust Buy for about $14. The CD player works fine and can be controlled by the remote.

This radio stopped working after six months. The buttons on the faceplate would not respond at all. I would not recommend purchasing this radio and installing it on any kind of boat. I was also very disappointed in the service I received from Sony Customer Service. It was poor enough to really make me consider future purchases of anything with the Sony Brand.

We were really excited to see that Sony had a marine radio, we are usually big fans of their electronics. From the onset we were pleased with the appearance and performance, but within eight months the tuner face has quit working leaving us stuck listening to a cd at a volume we cannot control. There is no function on the radio, MP3 or volume. The online troubleshooting guide provided by Sony has brought no solution, we are on our way out to pick up a different brand / model. Very disappointed, especially since the boat is garaged and desalted after each use.

This radio has amazing sound quality. it is very easy to install. I have modified my hot tub and installed it. I do have (2) internal 15" Sony speakers on (2) external Sony speakers. It does rattle the tub.

I have been completely satisfied with this unit so far. Installed it in the boat in about 10 minutes. I only hooked it up to 2 speakers, but the unit allows for many connection options ( amps, subs, 4 speakers, etc ). I was immediately impressed with the sound. I loaded up a disc full of mp3's and we headed out. It was Memorial Day Weekend at the lake of the Ozarks, so the water was very rough. We did not experience a single skip all weekend. It only has an aux input instead of any fancy Ipod control input, but it works fine. I can't really comment on the durability as we've only had it for a month, but so far so good.

Third replacement in 1.5 years. The radio is in a very dry compartment in the boat. The face panel fails. You remove entire radio and send it in for repair. After months (over three months last repair) they send you a new one. Within weeks the third radio had the exact same defect. I spent over $800 installing a top of the line satellite ready radio and to date have had nothing but trouble. Beware - Sony is a good company, but this radio is a lemon............ A boat with out a radio is not a lot of fun.
