As a left-hander who drags their hand through writing, I went into store expecting a small assortment of hardness for pencil leads. No such luck. Bought the standard hardness (which i think breaks too easily).

I really like the 0.5mm pencil and lead because of the size of the pencils. I bought three of the pencils when I bought the lead because I have them in different parts of my home. I love to shop at Staples. Everyone there is so very helpful and if they do not know the answer to one of my questions, they find someone else who can help me. I buy all my home supplies for our computer and printer at Staples. The prices are very reasonable and the items are very easy to find in the store as it is well marked.

Package is not earth friendly - lots of room and little lead in it - better to fill up the lead package than have 3 containers for the same amount of lead.
They do smudge - other companies do also - was a good price so I bought them -

Refills for mechanical pencils are not a "flashy" item so tend to get ignored until you run out of them, so it is great to have a supply of them on hand.

I prefer the Pentel mechanical pencils due to the ease of advancing the lead since it is located on the side. They are also comfortable to use while writing for extended periods of time. The lead is excellent quality and what I prefer. It doesn't break easily, stays sharp, and, thus, is more economical in the long run than other brands.

Used this lead to refill my e-sharp Pentel mechanical pencil. It's a nice dark lead that's great for exams. The packaging said it's "guaranteed to scan" and I haven't had any problems. It's also easily erased which is nice if I change my answer.

If a person actually could survive by sustaining a premium quality mechanical lead addiction without poisoning oneself, then I'd be that one sole person overcome as a co-dependent Pentel SUPER Hi-Polymer 0.5mm HB Lead FIEND!!
This is the only lead I use, ever since I discovered it on sale at my neighborhood STAPLES! I also found that this miracle lead is the perfect partner to the BIC Reaction #2 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil (with cushioned grip).
I write very heavy-handed and with a lot of pressure, so much so that with lighter lead weights and without cushioning, I would always cause other leads to break very easily while quickly developing a throbbing ache and pain in my fingers, wrist and elbow.
But Pentel SUPER Hi-Polymer 0.5mm HB is the IDEAL lead width and weight to help support my comfort during extended periods of writing or drawing. I can (and often do!) write or draw for hours on end with this lead in my mechanical pencils!!
And, I love it! Absolutely, LOVE IT!! So much so that I've even included two drawings (below) that I rendered each in separate three-hour sketching sessions using only five pieces of this lead total with a BIC Reaction #2 0.5mm Mechanical Pencil. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The lead & the pencils!
Such fine detail! Simple, perfectly weighted thin and thick lines, both in one or two easy strokes!
After a few light brushes with a good quality non-latex Pentel Hi-Polymer Eraser, this lead all but disappears from the page, with ease and comfort!
Even for heavy-handed, multi-stroke sketching like mine, the lead can be delicately brushed off the page with a few swipes of a premium eraser... That's TOP NOTCH!!
I missed the trend in high school or college when all my classmates transitioned to note-taking in pen, rather than pencil. I did switch from wooden to mechanical pencils at about that time, but never to ink pen.
I like being able to have the option of erasing my mistakes, not scratching them out with messy inked-up chicken-scratch. I like light, clean, straight, soft lines, and that's what this lead delivers!
PERFECT for the romantic Lead Lover in all of us!!

With three packs of lead, it will take a long time before you run out.
