(Manufacturer # 2243290 ) PlotBased on Howard Fast's novel The Winston Affair, this WW II-era crime drama is set in India and chronicles the attempts of an American military attorney to defend a lieutenant who shot a British officer in cold blood. Many witnesses were present and the question the lawyer must answer is whether the defendant is sane enough to stand trial. His investigation leads him to believe that his client is not. Unfortunately, his general is anxious to resolve the case to quell mounting tensions between British and American troops. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi Bonus Features - Still gallery

Review Man in the Middle should be an engrossing, enthralling court martial movie, but misses this goal. While it is certainly not a bad movie and is indeed fairly entertaining, it's also undeniably disappointing. The blame doesn't lie with the screenplay, which may not hit all the right notes but which is on target for most of the time. True, the romantic subplot is tentative and doesn't fit right; it's really along only so that a statement can be made about the need for impartial judgment in law even when presented with a hateful, bigoted defendant. There also are moments when the screenplay loses its way a little; on the whole, however, it's a fine piece of writing and should have made an excellent film. The problem is star Robert Mitchum. Certainly Mitchum is a fine actor, his laconic presence belying a strong and commanding power. But it goes against the grain in this film, diffusing tension and preventing the film from every building up the head of steam that is crucial for its success. Director Guy Hamilton does the best he can, and he's helped by Keenan Wynn's terrific supporting performance as the psychopath on trial. Even with its flaws, Middle is worth a viewing. ~ Craig Butler, Rovi Product Info- Release Date : April 24, 2007
