Denali hinged footbed keeps snow from flipping up on your pants. The traction is great for ascent, descent and cross-hill trails. Tails do what they say & add flotation anytime you might sink. Easy-on & off, low volume & mass. Foolproof. If you buy the shoes, buy the tails - designs change over time.

I love the tails; they make for great float, especially in nice powder, and can keep you from making pot holes in crusted snow. They do go on without much trouble unless you have encrusted snow & ice. However, the idea that you can take them on & off on the trail without removing your shoes seems totally crazy to me. Would require advanced yoga position. You have to be sure they slip into their notches real snug, and have to screw them real tight. Because they can fall off!! When trekking over crunchy stuff, or bushwhacking through woods, the uneven pressure creates torque that will loosen the tail. (Or your dog gets tired, slipstreams you, and steps on a tail.) Then one whack may knock it off -- and you won't notice for quite a while. I didn't lose any last year, but I've lost two this year. AND I CAN'T REPLACE THEM BECAUSE MSR DOESN'T MAKE 8" OR 4" TAILS ANYMORE!!!!!! WHY NOT??? I didn't buy 6" because they were a silly half-way house between great open field float (8") and minimal (4") when cutting through woods. Now they offer only the 6" compromise, and I'm left with 2 incomplete pairs of tails, 8" and 4". They're saving on inventory, no doubt, but this penny-pinching screws the customer. Here today, gone tomorrow. What will they switch next, leaving the customer abandoned?

We were impressed with how much easier it was to navigate deep snow with the tails added on to the snowshoes. Definitely worth getting these to go with the snowshoes!

If you find yourself sinking a little more than you wish with the Evo, pick these things up and they'll help quite a bit. You don't need them on packed trail by any means, but if you go off the beaten path, pick them up and you won't be sorry.
