My water Heater leaked few days ago and flooded my basement. After doing a lot of research on the web looking a various Water Heater. My son recommended Kenmore Brand because price and quality is good. They also offer installation that is much reasonable ($229.00). I called a number of Plumbers and they all wanted me to buy the brand they carried and also wants to charge between $700 - $900 to install one. The best i can get is a friend who recommended one who wants me to Buy the AO Smith at about $400 and charge me a "special discounted" install fee of $425 - $500. I bought the 40 gallon (6 year warranty Unit) at Sears.com - cost - $346.00 and also bought the installation kit ($35.00) and then installed my myself. Yes. I do have to spent about $40.00 at ********** to get couple of other supplies. But total cost is less than $500 (tax included). Took about 2 hours and I am not a handy man.

We figured we would save a few buck and get the floor/scratch n dent model. I would be weary but you can get one heck of a deal though. Don't use our experience as the norm for this product. The first unit installed easy and fairly fast. Fill then fired the unit up and withing a few moments the tank started to leak (factory defect on a weld). We had to drain ane remove the unit. Called Sears and after a few calls they took it back under warranties full replacement. The unit was not even a minute in use. After all was said and done Sears was a good choice and was easy to work with. Now for how this unit will funtion as it should and last the lifetime is a wait and see. First day of use has yet to start. Should be a good value but only time will tell. Will write a better review as time goes on.

The appliance seems fine and the installation went well. My only problem was that the instalation cost $325 more than was estimated. According to the installer the flue had to be replaced ($250) and the overflow pipe had to be replaced ($75). I just can't be sure if that was really necessary. Also if these extra charges are usually routine when a 9 year old water heater is being replaced, then they should be spelled out at time of purchase. At time of instalation the customer is really a captive audience with no alternatives. I suspect the installation company routinely adds these last minute charges. The customer has no opportunity to get an opinion or check prices.

Old hot water heater leaking.. what to do? After false start on-line, ran over to Matteson Sears and was treated like a customer. Back home in 1/2 hour and hot water by bedtime. Hot water since and for a longtime.. hopefully.

This is a great product, we got ours better than this 11 yrs. ago and paid alot less. Sears sales people are not honest so you have to research your self. Our tank is still good and the condensing is normal in the winter time, all you have to do is turn up the hot water temp a little to take care of the condensing. We returned the new one not needed and found out they like to hold onto your money for 10 days before you get a refund. I complained on line to customer service and got my refund within 2 days. I also found out you do have to drain these heaters once a year. ********** and ***** does have heaters for alot less that will work just as good due to the terrible service we got. It is about money not the customer.

My old water heater leaked finally after 20 something years so finally bought a new one and wish I did this sooner. Install was very easy just take your time and buy everything you need at the hardware store before hand to make it easier. Installed it and works perfect and heats the water quickly. Got it on sale too so even better.

Did'nt need to go to local DYI center for materials, parts, thats a first. Easy installation, light weight. Instructions sticker for lighting pilot was easy to follow. Water heater looks and operates great!
