Had this mower about a year now and it's been great. I mow an acre in 45-60 mins. Has plenty of power and the cut is noticeably better than the Husqvarna I replaced. Steering is pretty tight and I think it's pretty quiet considering the hp and triple blades. Maintenance (oil change, greasing) has been easy. Took a mowing or two to get used to the foot pedal controls but I like them. RIO button isn't a big deal. The PTO switch seems a little flimsy but I think it will be fine. Noticed it started leaving some uncut trails like others have said on here. You just need to give the under side of the deck a good cleaning, not just using the wash port, and that solves the problem. The deck needs max airflow. It'd be nice if the blades overlapped though. Dealer told me if you take care of it it should last 10 years easily. Overall this is a great mower and I really enjoy using it.

I've been cutting my grass with a 1967 model 60 and with great respect for John Deere engineering and quality control. Last summer the 46 year old lawn tractor started to smoke and I decided to let someone else deal with that. It was time for some new technology. After researching the tractor forums I decided on the D140 based on owner satisfaction over the 3 years it's been on the market. Home Depot in Seabrook ordered it in for me along with the free 7P trailer and a highly recommended front bumper option for $79. Picked it up today and mowed grass and fall leaves with it and was very, very impressed. The mower deck is extremely high speed and throws very far. The twin V engine is powerful, smooth and sounds nice. The seat is very comfortable. It's the best mower I've ever driven! Scott from Lawn and Garden an Allan the assistant store manager were really customer focused and nice to deal with. Hats off to Seabrook store.

I settled on the D140 because of the electric PTO and two cylinder engine. I took it home and started butting around my trees and to my delight found that the turning radius on the D140 is tighter than any of the 100 series mowers. It also has 12 gauge steele deck and very quiet as I like to mow on Sundays.

After 120 Hrs of use, all spindles and pulleys had to be replaced. Just out of warranty, John Deere covered HALF of the $350.00 cost for replacement,This year, at 150 Hrs, the spindles are making noise again. This machine is John Deeres answer to competing in the low cost lawn tractor market.Do yourself a favor, buy a CUB CADET. Hundreds less $$, family owned manufacturer, more features, and much more dependable.

Beautiful lawn mower. I love all the bells and wistles and it mows very nice. However, It's summer. I don't want to wear boots and socks while mowing. It gets pretty darn hot around the foot pedal making my right foot very very hot. Wish there was some kind of barrier I could put inbetween the foot pedal and the engine.

Bought last year. Works great. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Have never bogged engine, even in really tall weeds. Very comfortable and easy to operate. Good even cut. Love it.Not overly impressed with mulcher. Wish it came with a front bumper. Improvements could be made to fuel gauge, not always accurate. Needs to come with 2 keys.Would definitely purchase again if I had to do over.

Bought this mower because I was told how good it was supposed to be, had John Deere before and it was a good mower, lost it in the flood. also bought the extended warranty to cover things for the long haul. Turns out the warranty does not cover any of the things I was told and this mower cuts the worst of any mower I have ever had. It might as well be a 42" deck with all of the over lap I have to do to get rid of the trails it leaves, I have the pictures to show this. The John Deere dealer says this is not much of a mower, ie: only a 3 - 5 year mower, cutting 2 times a month, that equates to 100 uses and then it's lived it's life, that is nonsense. I am totally disapointed and now JD won't stand behind the product, they just keep telling me I should have bought a real Deere. Well what did I buy?. It's Green/Yellow, says John Deere on it so shouldn't we figure it's a Deere

This is the second John Deere product I have purchased. There is no substitute for quality. From my 4120 tractor to my D140 lawnmower, faster, quiter, smoother. It only too a few moments for it to be loaded into the back of my truck. However, I would have this delivered if you don't have anything at home which could lift the lawnmower safely from your truck to the ground.

I really like the tractor. My first cut was a rough cut because it had been 2 weeks. The ease of use was clear from the start and the power was very surprising. It does eat gas like no mower Ive ever had- almost 4 gallons to do about 4 acres. Ran strong, nothing stops it. Cut was even. My last mower was only 1/2 the price of the Deere, I realized my old mower was a pretty good worker. By the 2nd cut, I could really see the difference. My neighbor has an 8000 dollar mower and my cut is superior, clearly.

Bought this at my local Home Depot. Brought it home and went over all the mower settings. Found the tires were slightly overinflated. The mower deck was off a lot. I re-adjusted the mower and took it out for my first mowing. Tractor handled great. I was very impressed with the mowing quality. Not sure the results would be the same had I not checked the mower beforehand. Big improvement over my Troybilt belt drive tractor.

I have used this mower 4 or 5 times. The mowing in reverse button takes a few times to get used to, but don't let that steer you away. It's really not that big of a deal. Plenty of power and able to handle a rougher and uneven lawn like mine. I also bought the bumper for the front, which I recommend, to keep me from damaging the front end. Tony @ the Home Depot was awesome in helping me to choose the right one for my needs.

Great product for the money. Awesome power. It carries my 260 lbs. with ease and mows level. Steers with ease, cuts down the weed eater. The deck is a little noisy but nothing I can't live with.

I've had this tractor now for a month. When I bought it, my lawn was heavily overgrown because of the abnormally good weather we've had in Michigan. I set the deck to the mowing height I wanted and blew through .5 acres in just over an hour. The mulching option on this mower isn't very good, so you should consider bagging or leaving large clumps of grass being acceptable.

Overall, I think this is a very good value for the money. It has plenty of power to blow through overgrown grass. The automatic transmission allows for a coffee mug or beer in one hand while you do the work. The cut is even and leaves a nice finish on the lawn. The chassis is better quality than other mowers in this price class. With routine maintenance you can expect years of reliable service from this machine. Here are my gripes: First and foremost, the discharge system stinks. Clippings do not discharge well, and the result is the deck will clog even when cutting dry grass. In turn this causes it to drop big clumps of matted clippings for you to pick up by hand after you're done mowing. I find that very annoying on my 2+ acres of lawn. To add salt to the wound, you can't get the underside of the deck cleaned out without removing it from the mower, and because it clogs so completely, it requires cleaning after every use. It does have a washout port on top, but the washout system doesn't work either.Secondly, I intend to disable the electric safety interlock for the Reverse Implement On feature. I understand the manufacturer has to protect itself from being sued by that fraction of the consumer market that shouldn't be allowed to even operate a coffee maker. But for the rest of us who have enough common sense to mow a lawn safely, that interlock is a real nuisance.

Purchased the John Deere 140 tractor from sales person John W. at the McHenry, Illinois Store. John described the features of the D140 tractor to me. I also own John Deere Sabre 48 inch, 14 year old tractor/mower. We discussed the new and improved features between the two models. Those features are locations of the key, brake & brake lock, deck lift lever, gas tank gauge, reverse implement option, cruise control and seat. I am happy with the D140 tractor. I have a snow blower attachment for the 14 year old Sabre, as I plan to keep it for the Winter snows! I would like to thank John W and assistant manager Mike at the McHenry , Illinois store for their help in the purchase of this tractor.

I priced this Deere at Lowes and Depot. The deciding factor was free delivery from Depot. Had I known that I would have to wait almost 2 weeks and spend numerous phone calls just trying to find out where it was and when it might be delivered, I might have paid the $70 for same day delivery. The farm equipment company that assembled and delivered it was very thorough and helpful.

I have used the mower for three months and I love how it cuts. The seat is very comfortable and the controls are easy to use and become familiar. My wife also likes her Deere a great deal and helps cut the grass on our six acre orchard.

Runs nice has good turning radius. Has lowered my cutting rime by over an hour. I use it to cut 1.8 acres and use the cart to tow around yard debris, leaves, trash. My only gripe and it may be me is occasionally if the grass gets too high like over 6" say it leaves high spots in lines where I have to run back over. Not sure if this is a common thing or maybe operators error. But I do love the machine. Handles well easy to drive and

Bought this model recently and have used it three times. Wish the fuel tank was larger and ride was smoother. We have 2 acres with lots of uneven land and the jarring ride is tough on the body. Otherwise, cuts well and getting the free cart as part of the online special made it a good purchase.

I orriginally posted this review by accident on the Califonia Model.Since that post the tractor squeeks and got a flat tire.I called the J.D. Dealer that delivered it for Home Depot. They told me the tire was not undewr warranty and I had to bring it in for the squeaks.Maybe I should have bought from a servicing establishment.I may just return it I have 4 hours on the tractor. Here is my orriginal review. This is my 5th tractor in the last 20ish years.I had a Toro,2 craftsman a Cub Cadet and finally a Deere. It is amazing the speed of the deck. The clippings are finely chopped I have the bagger attachment. It cuts very evenly and hardly makes a dent on the lawn with the wheels like my previous tractors did.The Cub was an improvement over the others and the John Deere is a vast improvement over the Cub.Other reviews talk about chute clogging but this is no differnt than any of the others if you pick up the grass.Common sense prevails, don't plan on cutting 6" of wet grass real fast and not have a clog.I will say that the chute does not fit very well to the deck and grass clippings land on the top of the deck.It is installed correctly.
