It was a few weeks after I read Harry Potter 1,2,3,and 4 . I saw Half Magic in the after Harry Potter section . My sister was the one who wanted the book . I thought I would hate it . I was wrong I read a little bit of it then I became addicted . I read Half Magic , Magic by the Lake , Knights Castle , and The Time Garden in about two weeks . All four of these books are by Edward Eager . I cant wait to get the other books by Edward Eager . Half Magic is Excelent

Read this book when I was 10 or 12 (decades ago). I have read thousands of books since and still have remembered the title and characters' names (something I seldom do). Was delighted to find it under books similar to Harry Potter. I know my niece will enjoy this book as well as Potter, if not better. This book is timeless in its sense of mystery and adventure for young people of all ages.

It was a wonderful tale of wishes. From Jane not exactly being herself to her hysterical mother. I read this book a while ago and from then I started to read all the other. How Eager makes every main character somehow related to each others. This was truly a wonderful find.

When I was on vacation, a friend recommended it to me, since it has always been her favorite book. So I read it and found out how good it was. The author makes it seems as though the there really might be magic in this world.I LOVE IT!!!!!!

I was so surprised to find this title that I read 45+ years ago. I tell children that I enjoyed the fantasy of wishing double to get what you really want. And I loved the travel the children had to make. Maybe that's why I like to travel so much now. The messups were fun to read about, also. I'm going to have to find my book and read it again.

I love this book. I first read it when I was five years old. I have read it thousands of times since and I still love it. someday when I have children of my own I will read it to them, like my mother read it to me.

I was looking for a book with an interesting plot and magical adventures, when I came across this book. I read its summary and decided that it might be a good read, even if it is somewhat old. I read it and I was delighted! I haven't read the rest of the books yet because I need someone to tell me what order they go in. If you know plz email me.

I read this book 40+ years ago. It was one of many offered in the Weekly Reader Children's Book Club. It was interesting, entertaining, exciting - and may even have a hint of early feminism. (Check out the jousting contest!) So now in the year 2000 I am searching my memory for all the good titles of my own 'wonder years', when a good book was all I needed.

I think this was a perfect fiction/fantasy book. I think finding a magic coin really turned Jane, Katharine, Mark, and Martha's summmer into a summer filled with adventure. I loved the adventures they went on and how they dealt with each situation!!!!!

The story is whimsical, entertaining and wonderful. The characters are bright, adventurous, realistic children and the magic is delightfully fun and unpredictable. I adored this book when I read it 30 years ago, now my 11 and 9 year old daughters do too. Read all the Edward Eager books, in order, and watch for reappearing characters and related stories.

Ever since I can remember, my dad has read us an Edward Eager book over the summer. We would cuttle up close on the couch and listen intently as the mystifying words filled the room. Half Magic was the first of these, and I think you have to read it to appriciate the rest. I have found myself enjoying these books on my own now and I think that they are enjoyable at any age.

Half-Magic was an okay book, I thought it was too short, and would have liked it to be longer. I don't think anyone over 15 would really like this book, unless they are really childish. Overall I give it three stars

This book is good, thought it lacks the enthusiasm that other \"magical\" children's books have. This book is poorly written, but may 1/5 of the time, keep the reader interested. I think children these days, even if they're sick of reading Harry Potter, should go back, pick up a Potter book, and start reading...

I thought this book was really good and I liked it a lot. I really liked the plot and how each chapter is a different point of view. If I had that coin, I would wish for world peace twice!

My sister and I used to devour the local library of books and this is most definitely one of my all time favorites. The best part is that Half Magic, Time Garden, and Magic by the Lake are all connected with the same characters and fun new ones. Harry Potter actually reminded me a lot of reading these books. They're truly wonderful.

This book I first read when I was in the 3rd grade in 1954! I read it again when my daughter was 4 years old and we laughed and enjoyed the story. I enjoy reading it again and letting my imagination run wild...just like when I was a kid.
