It has lots of connections so it should work for most applications. Installation took 15minutes in the dark using a flash light. Programmable for 4 different temperatures 7 different days each week. Trouble free for almost 1yr and counting.

Took a little longer to replace than the suggested 15 minutes since the annotations on the old thermostat didn't translate to the Filtrete. A few minutes on the internet got me the installation instructions for the old Honeywell and I could get things cross-referenced. Programming was easy and perfect for my odd work schedule/days, the old 5-2 thermostat just wasn't what I needed. So far it works as advertised, time will tell how durable it is.Note/Comments on lambition's review & pictures: There should be a piece of thick white tape in the package to stick on top to cover the wires. I agree that it's not a great design or solution, but it is what it is. I think the gaps in the side are for optional add-on modules, like a WiFi receiver from the more expensive model. I'm guessing that's the only difference between them, WiFi receiver or not.

What are the chances I get a defective product. The unit would turn the fan on but not the Heat nor A/C. Be careful with this product... It may cause you to spend more money on HVAC service call.

Has nice features for the price, and the warranty, however, it doesn't have enough room to route 4-5 wires to the terminal block. Very poor design compared to ones I've installed before Also, instead of programming 5 days then 2 days you have to program a day then copy it to other days a little more time involved. Also, the the alignment install holes are different seems like the companies would make them all the same so when you replace an old one

Overall I like this thermostat, it's easy to adjust the temp and to read the display, but I do have to keep the manual nearby to recall how to reprogram when the seasons change. I also just changed the batteries for the first time (got it a year ago) and was VERY disappointed I had to reset day/date/time and the programming. This wouldn't be such a nuisance if the touch pad symbols/text weren't gray on white and in a very small font. I wear bifocals, but was still frustrated a bit, esp. as the thermostat isn't located near a bright light source.

I bought this thermostat to replace an older Honeywell unit that only activated certain features of our Heat Pump/AC unit instead of all of them. The Filtrete was even worse and didn't activ ate anything. I called in Professionals who determined that the problem was with the Heat Pump which they fixed, The Honeywell Thermostat worked perfectly but when they replaced it with the Filtrete it didn't work at all. They concluded it was non functional when I bought it so that I had totally wasted my money.

Not the easiest thermostat to install...When we first installed this thermostat, it blew fuses and the AC didn't work for an entire day until we figured this out. Thankful for an honest AC guy's knowledge over the phone! This was in August, in the South, and we were irate...and hot! Replaced the fuses and got it working just fine. Now seven months later, the display screen has gone out. Thought a simply battery replacement would solve the issue, but no! We had to uninstall it at the advice of a 3M tech support guy. Took it back to HD with no problems, but now I have some (!) alert on it. Just frustrating...

Does everything I wanted it to do; and does it accurately. Programming is straight forward. Particularly like the energy saver button that decreases the setting by four degrees when we're gone for awhile.

Second one working fine.Home Depot cut off at 90 days so back to factory. Wait for replacement.

Now, donât get me wrong I am VERY tech savvy and have used other types of touchscreen thermostats from Honeywell in my other home. In fact I have three thereâ¦one on each level controlling a 3 zoned system which I installed myself. That is MUCH easier to use daily. Simple to understand buttons and even my wife can operate that. This one is another story. Way too many buttons! I think they are pretty confusing. For example the most used buttonâ¦.hold temp button should be biggerâ¦.easily locatable. But it is a tiny button having even tiny print. I should have got a touchscreen model. But they were like twice the price of this one. My old eyes have a hard time with the super tiny print on this model. The best part is that it comes pre-programmed. I did read the manualâ¦.it is pretty good. Installation was easy but I did have to call tech support once because I needed the C wire. Without that this thermostat wonât even turn on.. So if you donât have the C wireâ¦you will have to use the batteries. I did not want to use batteries.Overall, Iâd say..splurge the extra $40 bucks and get the touchscreen Honeywell models. They are easier to use on a day to day basis.

Tried two. First one would not hold program settings. At all. I got the second one to program and settings appeared correct. The furnace runs to 71-72 degrees although the filtrete thing is set at 68. The hold function doesn't work. It goes back to the program mode at first program change time. That is to say, it is the same as the override function.100% failure rate... WOW! If you must buy it keep the box and receipt.(They look good though.)

We just bought a house and the first thing we did was change thermostates. Great investment and product.

The first one I bought would not go into Fahrenheit. There's a jumper to set the mode and that made no difference. The one I got in return worked fine. I needed a second thermostat and on this one the switch in Heat mode doesn't work. Only Cold and Off.A 66% defect rate is unacceptable. This isn't a dollar-store item, but the quality control appears to be similar. The one that worked is fine. It's easy enough to program, although the key labeling is a little goofy. Some keys the text is over the button, others under. Just takes some getting used to.

Works ok as a decent programmable thermostat. I did have a problem getting the cover that hides the terminals where the wires connect to fit properly.

I bought this because of kids and a housekeeper going thru menopause (housekeeper not kids) fiddling with thermostat. Bought solely for price and for the lock feature. The description says the press and hold lock will lock all buttons, but the side fan switch and the heat off cold switch didnt lock. Not a big deal, I programmed cold @ 80 (its winter). I''ll reverse in summer. I took off wall, shaved the fan switch until it was not sticking out of case (set on auto). Figure kids will be back at facebook and xbox before they figure that out. Kind of irritating though.Wiring diagrams, stickers, install instructions were great. My install has a jumper between RC and RH (not an uncommon install) and the instructions didnt cover that. I assume the customer service # would help people with that. Not my first thermostat rodeo so not a problem for me. Would have been a 15 minute install but for having to take back off wall to shave fan button.Easy to use and to program.4* for unit--would have been 5 at that price but for all the the buttons not locking.Otherwise, nice easy install (I only used 2 screws at top-thats all you need). Seems to work great.Notwithstanding above, at this price I would recommend.People complaining about temp accuracy, you can calibrate the thing. Maybe it wasnt properly set at factory or got thrown off during install/program or on the long boat ride from China. Easy to calibrate-read instructions..People complaining about the open sides-that's so it can accurately read ambient temp.

Replaced old for this programmable style. Leaves a lot of or space open behind the unit which revealed previous screw holes and mismatched paint. Wires feed from the top and in my case revealed the hole where the wires came through. Probably wont in most cases but in order to hide old screw holes the best I could this was the case. Programming was just not easy. You will probably need to hold on to the instructions. I returned it for the Honeywell model which was so simple I didn't even need to reed the instructions.

Now that I'm retired, I needed to replace my old 5-2 thermostat with one allowing greater program flexibility. I have a single stage gas furnace, no A/C, so installation and programing was straight forward. My only complaint is it's appearance. The back half (wall side) of this unit looks unfinished with deep cavities visible on both sides and the wiring visible where it enters the unit on the top. To hide the latter they provide a white plastic label to stick over it, a cheap and cheesy solution. The case needs to extend to back to the wall to cover the top and sides

For the most part, simple to use and program. Has all the features of a high dollar thermostat, so why pay more?

it took a lot longer than 15 minutes to install- the directions were printed much too small-the directions were not clear about how to program-if i can get the thihg programmed properly, i am sure it will be very satisfactory

After reading reviews and hearing of others failing just beyond warranty, I found this one for just a few dollars more and a 5yr warranty. It had the added bonus of being designed to work with almost any hvac design, and 7-day individual program capability. I've had this for about 6mos and it's been working great. Make sure you keep track of your user manual, as you might want to make minor adjustments in the future. Programing steps are not intuitive, but fairly easy to setup by following the manual.

I needed a thermostat that would include supplemental heat. This unit seemed to cover every imaginable type of equipment - but instructions were clear on how to instal for our particular unit (a/c - heat pump with supplementary heat).Works fine - I have no reservations in recommending this unit.

This thermostat cost me over $200.00 in HVAC visits before it was determined that the thermostat was the problem. I called several times to get some reimbursementand never got the courtesy of a return call from the company. DON'T buy this product.

The first one that we bought was defective. We spent hours trying to get it to work before my husband would call the 1-800# to find out that's what was wrong. Went back to HD the next day and bought another one, and it works pretty well. It was really easy to install-our wires were actually correctly color coded for the spot it connected to, so we didn't need the stickers. The second package didn't have any directions or anything inside, and the "simple" function doesn't seem to work, but we're ok with that. The thermostat seems to work pretty well so far, but we haven't had any extreme weather yet. I would recommend this product.

The unit eats batteries, despite being wired per instructions to a modern heat pump/air conditioner. Only 1.5 years old. Also, the plastic tabs that hold cover on are breaking off due to poor design for access--not room for all the wiring, is part of the problem.

I had to return it, since my problem was not the thermostat and end up returning the product to the store.

This thermostat stopped working within a year. Seems cheaply made. I bought it because I used to think highly of the 3M brand. I don't anymore.
