Perfect for the garage. These shelves are sized perfectly and the 18" depth stands out of the way, while loading all that it has to to clean up the garage. Strength is simply NOT an issue. The particle-board bases are held in a ledge along the entire edge of each shelf. Even with multiple one-gallon paint cans it has held up well.Watch yourself during installation however. The problem is that the assembly is SO SIMPLE that you stop paying attention. Be careful to keep the rails in the correct orientation as you assemble. Beating them back apart might be time consuming and annoyingly embarrassing... had I done that (blush).

The shelf is Sturdy! Very easy to setup. All you need is a mallet to put it together and took us about 15 minutes. Great for the garage and basement.

I'd love to see Home Depot carry tall, sturdy shelf units in narrower sizes -- 12 or 14 inches deep, not just 18 or 24.

I purchased 40 of these units. Please note that the instructions provide that all rivets should seat fully in their slots. However, 12 of the 16 rivets on each shelf will not seat fully due to manufacturing issues. Presumably, this makes the unit unstable, would could cause the unit, among other things, to fall. Also, the instructions require the unit to be anchored to a wall or the floor, but do not tell you how to do this. I can guess as to how to anchor to a wall, but how would you anchor the shelf unit to the floor.

The product came together easily enough, but I had also purchased a couple of units from another retailer. The other shelves cost a bit less, but are much more sturdy. In addition, the shelving panels for 2 of them were damaged.

The units are very well-made and sturdy. Assembly is easy and intuitive. We have it set up in the garage and it works great. Plan to get an additional one once we install a storage shed.

These went together like a dream and are just what I've been looking for. The quality is superb. We bought three, then went back and bought three more.

I bought this unit for storage at my church. I picked it because the price and storage capacity were right, and the reviews were good. I'm a 5' 2", 58 year old woman, and I assembled it by myself in about half an hour. The insructions and related pictures were great, and all I needed was a hammer. I highly recommend it.

I dont know about 4000 lbs but it does hold all the paint cans and other assorted containers that I had stacked in the garage. It took maybe 30-40 minutes to assemble completely, just make sure you have a mallet or a hammer to tap connections in place. The frame feels solid, so do the boards but not as solid. They're made of mdf with some kind of coating. At some point I'll probably make some new ones out of plywood. Other that that its a good value for the price. WAY nicer than alot of the plastic shelf units out there. One last thing, stack the heavy stuff towards the bottom and the lighter stuff towards the top just as a safety precaution.

I've built a lot of these type of shelving units that use the keyhole system, primarily from a big ape, which have been great. Bought this on sale, and I regret it. While the steel parts are heavy duty and well powder coated, the board shelves are very lightweight. (Hint - they sell replacement shelves here - now I know why). But most importantly, the vertical posts are FAR from a true 90 deg. angle, making assembly difficult at best, as are the supplied connecting joints. The design also prohibits having a shelf at the exact middle of the unit. The instructions recommend inserting shelves as you assemble the frame from the ground up, and you will need to if you want two shelves close together. If I hadn't painted the shelves before the actual assembly, I would have returned this item.

This shelving unit was easy to assemble and I really like the vertical or horizontal set-up option. My first two units I needed horizontal but my next two will be built vertical for a different purpose.

These are good shelves for the price. They do not feel super heavy duty, but for most anything, I would trust them. Lateral motion would seem to be a weakness, if these shelving units experienced much of it. (side-to-side motion with lots of weight on them). But for the price and most any circumstances, I'd buy another set.

I got the first unit 3' x 18" x 5' from a black friday special. Turned out they won't have more of that (ur 364) too bad, it fit my needs exactly. But this 6' unit was just as good and the z shaped supports are the best design I've seen. Great for support and quick installation. The finish is tough and looks good. Some of the ends needed a little filing to fit into coupler, but just a little. Other than that, a hammer was all that was needed. Helps if you throw a screw into the wall in a few places, the unit is really strong of you do that.

I put it together myself. It would have been helpful to have a 2nd set of hands, especially in the beginning. Sturdy and useful shelf. Family member bought the larger one the next week. Great that there are now nuts and bolts to deal with.

I service industrial machinery for a living and have worked with Edsal products in the past. At my company, we have a saying "built to sell for a price". This product fits that saying. It is acceptable quality for the price. While I didn't look at the instructions until I started to write a review, I think that they leave something to be desired. Many of the negative reviews are really instructional issues that could have easily been avoided by minor instruction changes. For example, a rubber mallet to seat the beams. Several people commented on poor fit of the rivets. This type of shelving (a cheaper copy of rivet rack) needs to be "thumped" to get the rivets properly seated. I also wish there was a version available without the 3/8" particle board. I double layered them and bought plywood for the rest.

Was very easy to assemble without reading instructions. Rather spartan and could use a larger base, but seems quite solid.

This was an improvement over a lighter weight shelf of the same size I purchased at HD about 8 years ago. The primary improvements are a heavier weight metal and "post couplers" which aid in connecting the upper and lower posts. The couplers do not have a fixed mid-point and may not hammer onto the two posts with equal ease. As a result, care should be taken to balance the coverage on each post.I found one of the braces (at the rivet end) to be bent, and one of the couplers to need some manipulation to accept the post. These were fairly simple adjustment. Once the shelf is in place, it feels solid.

I bought 2 of these units online & picked them up in the store the following day. I'm a 45 yr old, average size woman and had them put together in about 45 minutes by myself. Put them together where I was going to use them. They are easy to put together and are very stable & sturdy. We're using them for extra food storage. I will probably be buying another unit to fit in the extra space as we've filled most of the shelves already. I would definitely recommend these.

Bought it for work to store oils and boxes. Easy set up (fills flimsy at first but once put together sturdy) Does the job as intened but dont know about weight limit (the particle board that is the shelf is little over 1/4 thick
