This book is awesome for pre-teens. This book is about Keisha Montgomery. Her ex- boyfriend just commited suicide and Keisha is lonely. So, she falls for her principal's son, Jonathan Hathaway. He is twenty-three and Keisha is eighteen. Guess what? He likes her too. The climax is when he plans to take her somewhere special and he takes her to his house! He gives her non- alcholic wine. He kisses her and it goes too far. She tells him to stop. He won't, his grip on her get stronger and tighter. She says to him stop you are hurting me. He pulls out a knife and he forces her to do whatever he says. They fight. She gets the knife and slashes his face. It leaves a scar. I recommend you read this book. This book teaches the lesson of never going out with someone that is older than you. *P.S.= Jonathan Hathaway has raped more than one girl in this book.*

This book takes some real life situations, and puts them into a wonderful read. Most books don't want to focus on reality, but this one, and the other two in the series, do focus on real life. It shows how anyone can overcome a person trying to hurt you. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. In this book, she not only gets hurt physically, but the other two ways as well. She overcame a man who just wanted to hurt innocent high school girls for his own pleasure. This is an amazing book!

Sharon M. Draper did an amazing job of painting the picture for you in this novel Darkness before Dawn. Every part of t his book kept me hanging on to such a deep interest. It made me laugh and even cry. The characters in this book were described so well that I see them in mind and even feel like I know them. The chapter when Jonathan forced himself against Keisha made me cringe and bite my lip, which is exactly what I want in a book, to make me feel like I am there with the characters during these scenes. I definately reccomend this book to any teen of any gender. This book impacted me and had me thinking for days even after I read it. I also reccomend Forged by Fire and Tears of a Tiger by Sharon M. Draper.

Again for this book I didn't read the whole series, however this book was so good that I bet the whole series is just as awesome! The writing and story have 5's because the realism and thrill are to the point where you are waiting to read the next chapter. I finished it in a reasonable time period. The author studied pschology and one can tell, not in a bad way though. It's intriguing and the complexity will have you wanting to reread it. Plus share it with your friends! This book is good for an escape or summer read.

I have been using Ms. Draper's books with my high school students for fifteen years and they never fail to get my reluctant readers reading. Every year I have a student say to me that this is the first book they have every read from begining to end. This is the thrid book in the Hazelwood trilogy, but you do not have to have read the other two to understand what is going on with the plot or the characters. Each book in the trilogy is a stand alone story. The main character, Keisha, shares what happened after her exboyfriend Andy took his own life at the end of their junior of high school. The story is told in flashback as Keisha is about to graduate high school. This book will keep your students talking and reading.

I first read "Tears of a Tiger" a couple years ago, falling in love with it. When I read the back of the book, I noticed two other books, "Darkness Before Dawn" and "Forged by Fire". I found the book "Forge by Fire", read it in 2 nights, knowing I had to quickly grab "Darkness Before Dawn". So I did just that. In this book, you meet Keisha. Her boyfriend had committed suicide in one of the previous books. Keisha was going through a lot, as well as their friends. She met a young man by the name of Jonathan Hathaway. He was the son of the school principal. Jonathan was the coach of the cross country team, which Keisha would run with to get in exercise. She had thought Jonathan was really cute and had a crush on him. They started talking on the phone every night and he made her feel mature and important. On one of their snow days, Jonathan had taken Keisha and her friends skiing, where Keisha and Jonathan got even closer. Jonathan finally asked Keisha out on a date for Valentine's Day after her high school dance. Jonathan took her to his apartment, which she thought was romantic when she first walked in. She would soon learn that it was more of a nightmare then it was romantic. That same "romantic" night, Jonathan flipped personalities and became a horrible person. He first started kissing her, and was coming on to strong. He was forcing himself on her, scaring her. She started to fight him off, he then started to fight her and tried to keep her trapped from leaving. She escaped from his apartment and was left walking in on that cold, snowy night. She was stranded, when she found a homeless woman who helped her by clothing her and giving her a phone to call her parents. Her parents came to the rescue and went to get her. She wouldn't return to school because she was ashamed. Jonathan never showed his face again at the school. A young girl came to knock some sense into Keisha and she then started going back to school. Her friends supported her 100% through her tough times. A young boy, who was always there to protect her, was finally seen by her. She saw him for who he really was and they were known around school as "being together". Keisha survived something a lot of girls can't. And I completely admire her for that. She had a complicated life, but overcame all of it. This is a real scenario. I easily read this book in one day because it was so addicting. I could read it over and over again, remembering everything that was coming with anticipation. This has to be one of my all time favorite books.

I thought this book was an outstanding book, a real page turner. I personally enjoy reading books that have meaning behind it, I like the way this book had many ways that teenagers or young adults can relate to. I enjoyed all the charcters in this book because they all had their special bond to the main charcter. I recommend this book to young high school girls, who can learn that when you think situations will be safe, that it doesn't always turn out to be like you expected it to.

I think Darkness before Dawn was an exciting book to read. I will love to reccommend this book to anyone who is willing to read a good book. Keisha was able to get over her boyfriends death and also being an attacked. I think that most teenage need to read this book, becasuse it would help them see how keisha deal with everything by talking to someone. You can alway hide from your fear, you have to talk to someone to release all of the pain.

When I read Darkness Before Dawn, I learned alot of the kind of pain that young women go through whenever they get abused. I also learned how much pain is caused by somebody that commits suicide, that they arent the onlyones that will get hurt, so are theyre loved ones. I really loved this book because It helps me not make mistakes that other people tend to make.

Darkness before Dawn is a fabulous book. If you¿re a person that loves suspense, this book will sure give you the chills. It's about a high school girl, named Keisha. She had a boyfriend name Andy. Andy killed himself because he couldn't keep living with the guilt he had because of an accident he was in, and where his best friend died. Keisha was very hurt because of the lost of his boyfriend. Then came a soccer coach that was very nice to her, but in reality he was a pervert that loved hurting high school girls. Keisha was falling in love with him, but her parents didn't approve that. One night she left with him, and he took her to his apartment. His apartment had candles and a sham pain bottle in the table that made it look very romantic. He started kissing her with a passion that wouldn't let her breath. She was really scared. keisha pulled back and told him to stop. He grabbed her and ripped her dress. He took a knife out, and he put it against her neck. She was shaking and didn't know what to do. If you are interesting in figuring out what happen to Keisha I suggest you read this book.

This book mostly, takes place in a high school. The main character Kiesha, had a terrible guilt of the death of her boyfriend. On top of that she had a terrible experience with on the school's track coach. Even though she had a few dark spots in her life, she still managed to end her senior year with a joyous occasion of her graduation among her close friends.

I believe Darkness Before Dawn is a great book. This book is believable and realistic. I would recommend this book for young girl teens or even teens in general. It is an example of a real life situation. It teaches many of lessons and moral that parents try to teach their teens. Teens however will like this better because it is more realistic and it is coming from another person. Keisha was able to get over her boyfriend¿s death and being attacked. I think that most teenagers need to read this book, because it would help them see how Keisha deals with everything by talking to someone else. You can¿t always hide from your fear; you have to talk to someone to release all of the pain. Darkness before dawn was really good and it captured my attention from the start! It kept me wanting to read and I didn¿t want the book to be over. I enjoyed this book because it was full of real life. Most books base things on stuff that might never happen, but this book made me look at a situation like this a little harder. It talked about things that really happen and it took mature readers to a whole new level. I couldn't put this book down and I don't even like reading that much. No one will dislike this book...I promise!

i think that this book is amazing because it's really mature and make you see things differently . Many teenage girls love older man just like the main character keisha, but they dont know what risk they are taking. by reading this book it made me think seriously about some things in a different point of view. you think much more mature. one thing i really liked about this book is the friendship that tyrone, rhonda, jalani, angel etc.. they share together. and its really romantic, tyrone and rhonda love each other but their love is innocent and pure.

This is the third book in the trilogy. After Andy commits suicide Keisha doesn't know what to do. Monty, Andy's little brother, and Keisha are really close now and Rhonda is still her best friend. During this book Keisha also meets Mr. Hathaway's son, Jonathan. He treats her like she's an adult and she likes him a lot, but he tries to rape her and she's never the same. After the ordeal she finds out that Leon, her friend and the class clown, falls in love with her. Well he's liked her ever since elementary school. I really liked this book. It's very dramatic and exciting and you feel so bad for Keisha. By the end though everything seems okay and many of them are off to college. I would love to read what happens to Leon and Keisha and Rhonda and Tyrone. I reccomend this book for anyone who likes high school drama. I hope anyone that reads this book enjoyed it as much or more than I did.
