This is a really great carrier. My 16-month old daughter loves it so much that if she sees it in the closet, she'll run over and cry unless I put her in it and carry her around the house. She stays comfortable in it even on long hikes.

A lot of the bells and whistles are actually great features. It comes with a small reflective card that I use to look back at my girl to check-in with her. The pillow is very plush and comfortable and she can fall asleep on it if she wants. The sun/rain canopy actually works pretty great and the high back can act as a protective roll bar - I tripped once while wearing the carrier and my daughter was well protected and was not the slightest bit disturbed by the fall.

I have only one complaint, but it is not insignificant. The kickstand is very poorly designed. It has a push button "lock" that has never functioned properly. The button is virtually impossible for me to push while wearing the carrier so you must fold it in before you pick up your child or else have someone else fold it in for you. However, the lock was rendered useless after a couple of unintentional bumps that closed the kickstand with proper depression of the button.

More troubling than the lock, the kickstand broke off the very first time I tried to use the carrier in cold temperatures. After an afternoon of snowshoeing in 20-30 degree weather, when I set the carrier down with my daughter in it, the plastic fitting on one side of the kickstand snapped off. The kickstand now dangles from one side and is utterly useless. I tried to superglue it back but it would not hold. I will have to cut the other side off and file down the jagged broken plastic edge.

I assume they will fix this significant design flaw in later models. This seems like such an obvious failing in an otherwise stellar product.

The KCIII is a great pack that will make it easy and comfortable for you and your child to get outside. We've had our daughter in one since about 6 mo. and she's almost 2 now.
Most importantly the KCIII is comfortable for the child. Everything is padded, including a big pillowy chin rest and padded side that offers neck support when baby konks out. Our daughter loves getting in the KCIII.
For the sherpa, the KCIII is super easy to adjust with one velcro strap, so parents can trade off with ease. It's got a lot of storage so if one parent takes it they have room for all of baby's needs and enough extra space for mom or dad's items. The pack has an oversized kickstand that is really solid and stable, big front and back straps for lifting the pack onto your back, and is really, really comfortable to carry. It's large, which is a draw back in tight spaces or crowded busses, but the full shade keeps the sun, rain, tree branches, etc. off your child and seems like would help if we ever took a spill. The pack cleans up easily- soap and water - and still looks great after 1.5 years of abuse.
The best thing I can say is that it's so comfortable and easy to use, that'll it will get you and baby outside! If you're in a more urban environment or likely to go on shorter walks and hikes, the KCI might be a better option due to it's smaller size, length and weight.
