I had seen these in action at a friends home and was very impressed with the results so tried one myself. Follow instructions about potting mix not soil and check water often.

I bought this as a starter for an herb garden. I love that it was on casters which made it easy to find the perfect spot in my yard before building a more permanent raised garden bed. Additionally the self-contained watering system is great since I had a hard time figuring out when the herbs were potted if I was watering too much or too little. The watering system took care of that for me. All I had to do was remember to fill up the reservoir in the morning.

We used the City Pickers planter for three cherry tomato plants. It is working well and the tomatoes taste great. I like that I can turn the planter easily every couple of days to keep the sunlight even. The watering tube and overflow holes let you know that the plants are getting enough water and are not being overwatered. I plan to buy several more City Pickers planters for next summer.

You really should sell these in your garden departments. They are really neat!Don't like having to pay postage and not be able to view the product in person.

This is a great sub-irrigation box similar to an Earthbox. The color was the standard plastic terracotta orange, but I spraypainted the outside of mine to look more polished. You will need to separately purchase ProMix, Dolomite (aka hydrated lime) and a pellet type of fertilizer to set this box up - so it would have been helpful if the City Pickers box stated these other items needed clearly on the exterior packaging instead of in the interior instructions. I would also recommend laying a small piece of garden fabric over the reservoir before covering it with soil, to prevent the roots from growing down into the water reservoir. The box has made watering of my vegetables easy, even in this super hot and dry weather. And my tomatoes and green peppers are absolutely thriving in my City Picker box - twice as much as my plants that are in standard pots. The only things that could make this box better would be (1) if Home Depot would offer a trellis system option similar to the Earthbox trellis and (2) if there was a way to purchase replacement plastic covers for next year when I re-use these boxes. Very happy with this purchase and highly recommended to anyone with a brown thumb - it makes vegetable gardening easy!

We moved to a new home and planted a tomato. It was not doing so well, maybe depleted soil. I was looking for a raised garden bed so I could also keep critters out. I came across the City Picker and after reading reviews immediately ordered one for store pick up. My tomato plant is doing outstanding now and I have been eating tomatoes sooner than the neighbors even with this drought! My husband is already thinking of buying another one next year and planting more items. It is so easy to move around the deck to make sure the plant gets enough sunlight.

Deer were eating my tomatoes and other plants. I bought three city pickers last year and put them on my deck. They worked great. I needed another one but the Home depot store didn't have one so I ordered it on-line. We have tomatoes, egg plants, bannana pepers, water mellon and cantalopes. They are great!

This product is great. I rent my home and cannot dig up the back yard. So this city picker is the perfect solution. I have planted corn, tomatoes and onions!

We purchased one of these units and planted early spring greens. They are performing spectacularly - so much so, that we have purchased another for tomatoes and we plan to purchase another for squash and zucchini.

So happy with the results that I've had with the CityPickers kit in my tiny, city "front yard". I read the other reviews first and found out that there was some special instructions and supplies needed to make it successful, so I recommend pulling out the instructions (secured under the black screen in the un assembled pack) before you leave the store to make sure you have everything you need: potting soil (not mix), garden lime, fertilizer pellets (not liquid), etc. I agree with another reviewer that once you get everything you need to get started, it's not quite the amazing deal it seems

This rating would be "excellent" if my tomato is truly happy with it, probably in 2-3 months I will find out. So far so good.... both are growing in the two planter boxes I purchased. I am an avid tomato grower and I used to grow more! Unfortunately, this is the first time I have had to use planter boxes because we moved to a smaller place with a smaller backyard! All my flowering plants are now occupying most of the spaces... They need a home too! ;) Will change rating later depends on how happy my tomatoes are in these boxes! Will take before and after pictures.

Product arrived promptly then I bought soil and other related items - mixed everything up - planted new plants - and it is the easiest garden I have ever had. Watering is just filling up the pipe - no weeding. I put my three garden boxes in a sunny location on ground that was so full of roots, etc. that nothing would grow no matter how much mulch was added. The plants are huge and this includes yellow squash, which has crawled out of the box onto mulch on the ground and is full of squash blossoms! Am very happy I tried this product.

I purchased 2 of these to plant with my 7 year old grandson. It went together and was ready quickly. He can't over water it and we already have vegetables growing. Can be used over again

This is a spendy unit but well worth the price. Grows tomatos and peppers better that any other way we have found in Arizona. My kids and I put this together in about 5 mins. and so far the plants are doing great. easy to plant, water, and harvest

I advise you to pull up on the tie wrapped black tray and pull out the instruction sheet while you're still in the Home Depot. You can then figure out the correct potting mix, lime additive and vegtable fertilizer needed during the set up. If a wheel stem doesn't snap in as supposed to, just wrap a bit of the packing cellophane around stem and it will be tight when inserted. I put eight starter tomatoes in and will leave in front of patio door for now while we finish out this lingering winter of April 2013'. Second unit set up and waiting for cucumber starters to arrive at my Home Depot in Seabrook New Hampshire.

My folks are in assisted living and sorely missed their garden. We gave them this for Mother's Day and helped Mom plant it with flowers and a tomato plant. I am told DAILY how much they enjoy it and how they go out daily to see it and water it. The tomato plant has taken off like a house-afire and they are eating tomatos off it regularly. The size is good and it is sturdy and we especially love that it is movable!! It is an all-around great product for a very reasonable price!Happy In Washington

This planting system is very reasonable for how much value it has! The subterranean watering system is virtually foolproof in protecting plants from underground and in-ground pest attacks, plus plants grow faster, bigger and stronger when planted according to the directions, which call for added dolomite (calcium) and the recommended fertilizer and planting mix. Its cost is not too different from other "regular" planters, but it really performs! Thanks for carrying this, Home Depot -- it's a bit hard to find in stores or on other websites, especially at your price!

We did not plant a garden this year but rather used a couple of these planters for our tomatoes. They are growing much better, no rot like in the garden, and no weeds either.

I have a lot of garden space available, so I wasn't sure if this was the right product for me. However, the results I've gotten from using it, and the ease of use has prompted me to buy two more. As an experiment I planted 8 vegetable plants in the Patio Garden Kit, and the same 8 plants in a regular pot. The vegetables in the Patio Kit are giant and thriving while the plants in the regular pots are sad looking and shriveled, even though I water and fertilize them regularly . The Patio Garden Kit gives the perfect amount of water so I can't over or under water. It's idiot proof, and perfect if you don't have a green thumb. You can also roll it in our out of the sun easily which is great.

This is my 1st garden and I love the city picker! We have 2 on our deck and everything is growing great. We are doing tomatoes, peppers, & strawberries. The only thing with the tomatoes we had to get cages to help them grow upward!

We bought two City Pickers as gifts for our son and grandson. We had a little trouble finding the exact materials that the instructions called for, but we eventually found them. Also, it was a bit expensive by the time you bought the container, the potting mix, the fertilizer, the dolomite and finally the plants. So far, they are great. We put tomatoes in one and pumpkin starts in the other, but it is too soon to tell about the yield.

I wanted to grow my own lettuce and tomatoes, but am forgetful about watering and hate weeding! I bought two of these, and planted 6 lettuce plants in one and 3 roma tomato plants in the other, and they're doing great! I made sure to follow their directions about using potting mix (not "soil"), dolomite, and fertilizer. I had plants left over, so I planted them in the ground as a comparison (kind of like a science project). The container plants are doing MUCH better. I'll be adding a couple more next year for sure!

The vegetables grown in the city pickers are larger and more healthy looking than those grown in my raised beds. Amazing! Just be sure that when plants get large, they get watered daily!

This thing rocks!!! I was at first skeptical after reading the instruction and needing lime. I bought 2. In one, I spent money on fancy soil. One I didn't. Didn't use the cover and my growth in both is insane. I planted 4 zucchini plants the same day. 3 in ground, the one in planter and the difference is astonishing. I AM A BELIEVER
