After years of using both ZTR's and different Lawn Tractors, this one is by far the best of the best!! It's strong 22 HP engine, 16" turning radius, and speeds are terrific! I like the ability to leave the ignition switch engaged, but turned to the position where I can go in revers without holding down a button!!! The throtle lever hardly ever requires that you use the brake. Very highly recommend that people strongly consider using this machine! The price is great for what you receive!

Not sure what the problem is with the owners that are giving less than 5 stars. This mower is a beast and sounds like an F-15 jet when you engage the blades. Cuts great with tons of power in reserve. Couldn't justify paying another 2 grand for the green models.

We have received the mower 1 month ago and so far so good. We mow an area of aprox. 2- 2.5 acres. The mower is a smooth ride, is much quieter than our previous mower and makes an even cut.

Researched alot Prior to purchase. Debating on cost to options.. definately wanted Hydrostatic the Button to engage the blades was much more convenient than the manual lever the other models have.. the V-Twin engine is great.. starts right up no problem.. and doesn't bog down when cutting heavy grass ... Would prefer that the hystrostatic control was actually on a foot pedal like many others.. (just seems more like driving a car) the hydrostatic lever takes some getting used too.. but many of them are coming this way so I suspect there is a reason they are making them this way.. Great mower... Great Price.,

I went online and to several stores in my area and compared "apples to apples". I decided on this mower because the last one I had was equipped with a 17.5 hp motor and for the same price or less I got a 22 hp which can handle anything I've come up against. Very fun to drive and it is truely made well. Not a cheap made mower.Been wanting to thank you Ariens!

I like the smoothness of the 2 cylinder engine and it's service features. The electromagnetic clutch is a nice feature.I transmission is alright but a geared transmission that is shiftableon the move would also be satisfactory. The turn radius is much better than my previous similar tractor.I have a small utility trailer that uses a ball and the rear plate design is not compatible with a ball hitch. The 30 day return policy should not start until the product has actually been delivered but that is not the policy ??It is important to set the 4 deck wheels, which is a great feature before it is used.I only use non-ethanol gas in small engines. The transmission disengagement, to roll it around by hand, is a wire that comes out the back.An hour meter would be helpful for servicing. It has worked fine for the first three mowings.

i have to admit i've had it only a week. i'm kind of picky about how things operate- so i inspected, read the manual- heck - even downloaded the manual so i could re-review from my laptop. i adjusted, checked, inspected & triple checked. ya know- there really should be a warning decal right by the ignition to purge the transmission - not just in the owners manual. heres a flash: i'm one of the rare birds that will take the time to read it (the manual) - and i would bet many owners dont do the steps before it gets a good trial run... yep- full of oil. yep- blades are now adjusted 'right on'. i fired it up after all of that- engine sounds ready to race!!.... hit the blade engage switch and could DEFINITELY feel them kick in. actually - somewhat more that normal in my opinion. i shut them down, turned off the machine and inspected the belts ,pulleys, etc as much as i could without removing the deck. everything looks good. but this baby SHAKES... mite be normal for this animal. i'm going to switch to a mulch kit- so after i run the new blades i'll update the vibration situation. i gave the machine a trial run- shakes and all- and i have to say the 22hp v-twin has awesome power for its size. lovin that! the controls rock!!... sure would have liked an adjustable steering wheel tho- cos it isnt real occupant-friendly when getting off/on the machine. o- almost forgot to mention- it came with the left front wheel towed waaaaaay in... i mean ridiculously so... there are no adjustments for the alignment on the front wheels. the rods are solid with no adjuster links, only the ball joints (necessary for steering...) sooo... do i crate this beast up & ship it back for the extreme toe-in?? i elected not. i have a friend whos a machinist who can fix that problem. if i didnt- well i think i'd give HD a call and tell em its all theirs. the front tire wouldnt last 2 weeks if that rod isnt modified. and thats on grass- whereas the lf tire pulls more grass than the mower can mow.at any rate i'll update this after i get the mulch kit on, re-check the vibration, and get the front tire lined up. at this point- i cant say i'm impressed. overall QC of this machine is obviously lacking. its well equipped- in fact i dont think you can find a machine with all of these features in its price range. too bad- all the positive features & power the machine has- but the assembly quality drives it rite into the ground. very sorry to say i couldnt recommend it as it is. if the vibration doesnt fade to a more reasonable level after i put the new blades on- she'll be venturing back to the carolinas...

I started researching lawn tractors when my MTD 18hp/46inch tractor needed to be replaced after 18 years cutting 1+ acres. I purchased this Ariens floor model at Home Depot, which I prefer not to do, but needed it soon. I checked the gas tank for fumes and made sure it was not used as a demo unit or stored outside. HD checked it out and delivered it within three days. I researched all makers on-line, including Husqvarna and felt that Ariens offered the best in features and was made in the U.S. The B&G engine was a plus as well. The tractor started up on the first try. After purging the transmission of air with the simple instructions while riding the tractor, I was off running from minute one. With my fingers crossed after 5 cuttings on my 1+ acres, I am highly impressed with this 22hp/ 46inch tractor. The metal shroud with the air intake shroud impressed me right off. No plastic stuff here!! I enjoy keeping my feet flat on the floor for stability without having to press on any gas pedal or tranny pedal as seen on competitive units. The tractor uses 3/4 of a gallon each time, as expected. The tank is easy to fill, and transparent for fill levels. The oil fill tube is easily accessible relative to the MTD. I had to adjust the deck leveling a bit but it turned out to be easy with just a few turns on the one bolt in minutes. The four wheels on the deck prevent scalping better than two wheel versions. The twin cylinders should last longer and remain quieter than single cylinder tractors. They also offer a smoother run. It did on my MTD so I'm looking for equal life and performance from my Ariens. The adjustable seat works well for me and my wife, who never wanted to use the MTD. The turning radius is great in that I can circle completely around all my plantings without having to circle back around repeatedly to finish the cutting. The hydrostatic tranny is a great plus with its reverse cutting, which has reduced the fatigue factor while cutting my large lawn. I have reduced my cutting time by a third due to this feature alone. I can sandwich my yard bags between the chute cover and the tractor since I always use the bagger. The electronic blade engager is a great feature which reduces fatigue seen from having to lift the blade engager as I did on the MTD each time I began mowing. The only negative I can find is with the twin bagger. I feel Ariens developed this as an after thought for 1+ acres and more. Three baggers are more efficient and require less effort when yard bagging as I do. The flimsy plastic cover has much to be desired and I don't expect it to last too many years. Inside the hinge, grass jams up and one is required to clean it out every time. At least I can pull each bag out partially to access emptying it while the lid is up. Lifting the seat helps as well. All things considered, this is the best tractor for the value I have seen in years, with features that will reduce fatigue, reduce noise, last years, and is just frigging fun to use for both sexes. The 'speed' knob I placed on the steering wheel has helped me to use both hands more efficiently as well. I hope to write an equally glowing review at the end of the season. Time will tell.

Has the most convenient features of any of the "budget" mowers out there. Tight turning radius, smooth, steady hydrostatic automatic tranny, smooth and quiet v-twin engine. I am 6' 2", 250 pounds and it pulls me around with ease and never bogs in cutting. Replaced a 22 year old LT-4000 Craftman with this one. Appears to be similar quality construction as the old Craftsman, so expect to get many years of service out of this one as well. Thanks to the lawn and garden team at Fair Avenue store in San Antonio. They had it uncrated, assembled and running for inspection when I arrived to pick it up as scheduled, thanks Jasmine and Karen for helping me with the purchase and the three nice ladies who pushed it up the ramps onto my flat bed trailer. Mowed the yard immediately after arriving home, just had to adjust the four antiscalp wheels to my taste. May start mowing the neighbors yards for the fun of it. Really love the adjusable seat and easy steering. Also the great military discount!!!Higly recommended!

This tractor has plenty of power and cuts grass well. The big problem, at least for me is that you accelerate using hand controls instead of a pedal. I have had many close calls hitting something because of the natural reaction that when you let go of the lever the tractor will stop. Not so with this tractor. You must put the lever in the zero position in order to stop movement. Another problem is that the wheels that come with the mower have very little traction, very easy to get stuck. Just some things to consider before purchasing one.

Very pleased so far - but its only been one month. Starts easily, mows evenly, comfortable ride, tight turn radus. The wheel base is a bit narrower than my previous mower so it tends to tilt because of the high seating situation. It travels well while mowing when going up the hills in my yard. The 22 HP helps in this category. The sticker says American built and I'm very happy if that is completely true. And I like the sturdy construction. Haven't tried the mulching blades on it yet.

Arrived on schedule in a very large crate. I quickly abandoned the hammer and pry bar and got the sawzall out to cut the crate apart. Like another reviewer said, you really can't just push this off of the shipping skid, so I cut some of the skid apart to give clearance for the front tires. The engine started right up and after purging the transaxle as recommended, I was off and mowing.I have used this mower several times now and have found it to have plenty of power on both level and sloped terrain. Engine is smooth and relatively quiet and the machine mows nice and evenly. Reverse operation system for mowing in reverse is very helpful. The speed control on the fender takes a little bit of getting used to, but actually seems to contribute to a more comfortable ride overall.Very pleased with my purchase, and I would recommend this.

Purchased floor model from Store. After spending about two hours waiting to find owner's manual, keys, etc, they could not get the tractor to start. Due to the fact that I don't work at the Home Depot, at some point I had to leave, so I took the tractor home and hoped I could troubleshoot the problem. After spending several hours reading the manual (Printed Online) and following every instruction I still could not get the tractor to start. I returned the tractor the next day. Based on the specs and price, this tractor was very attractive, but this one had a lemon in it somewhere.

I too enjoy this tractor, even more than my 46" Husqvarna. What I enjoy the most is the Hydrostatic transmission. I can simply move back and forth cutting all around trees and bushes easily with one hand on the steering wheel, and the other on the trans-stick. I gave this machine 4 stars instead of 5 because of where the starting key is located. As soon as the 90 days is up, I plan on moving the key switch higher on the dash. My right knee keeps hitting the key switch and it's shut down the engine twice now while I was mowing. I have to be very careful. That is the ONLY flaw I see with this fantastically priced tractor.

I've had this mower for one full season. I've found that while cutting uphill and turning at the same time you don't get such an even cut. The only real complaint that I have is getting off of it is hard to do because there is a lever/handle sticking up on both sides. Great value for the money as compared to the leading brands. (JD & Cub Cadet) I see my neighbors using their cubs and JD tractors and I know what they paid for theirs and for the money they only got half of what I got for the same money.I just snicker to myself ! I would and I have recommended this to a friend !

First mower wouldn't start. An employee came and picked it up and delivered a new one and made sure it started before he left. After mowing for ahile, it started dragging the deck. Missing a pin, and upon inspection, missing several bolts and pins. Also missing correct key, book and oil drain hose. Went back and got those and have replaced most but still missing one seat bolt. I guess they were using it for parts. Also, the battery quit about a month into owning it and now have to buy a new one. Last time I buy any equiptment from Home Depot without looking it over top to bottom, inside and out.

The only downside is that it is hard to start when cold. Rectified this by removing 4 bolts on the front of the engine (Air Filter and Carb), sprayed the carb with starter fluid and after securing the cover, she starts everytime.

This mower is the real deal, Ben and the guys over at the North Spokane location really know how to treat a customer. There was some delay in shipping, but it was a supplier issue. They took great care of me, and I could not be happier with this mower! It has turned mowing my full acre yard into something I look forward to doing. This mower has a ton of power, and does not hesitate at all no matter how tall the grass. Handled my field mowing without issue as well. Also, I recommend going with a pull behind sweeper as apposed to a bagger, it picks up much more grass, and has a wider range of applications.

The Home Depot site indicates that this mower will mow at 4.5 inches however, I have not been able to get it over 3.5 and even the manual that came with the mower says it only goes to 4 inches. I have inflated the tires to the recommended pressure and made all leveling adjustments to no avail. I continue to have my lawn care company complain that I am mowing too short. Overall however, the transmission is smooth, the turning radius is tight, and I am mowing in half the time with the 46 inch deck.

I purchased this mower about 2 weeks ago to mow my 2/3 acre yard. It started right up, but that's what you would expect from a brand new mower. I was impressed, though, with how smooth the engine was, compared to older single-cylinder models I've had. I did the front yard quickly, and was very happy with the handling and ease of control. The hydrostatic transmission is a big plus, and a tremendous improvement over the old manual transmissions. I then did the back yard, and it went just as smoothly. The real surprise, though, was the power. I headed for a patch of grass in the vacant lot next door that had grown to over 3 feet high. The mower simply plowed right through, never slowing or bogging down. This thing is a beast! My only wish is that the rear tires had a little more aggressive tread, as they tend to slip on steeper grades. It's not too much of a problem for me, though, as the only place it was any sort of difficulty was in the shallow ditch by the road in my front yard. If you have a steep, hilly yard, though, you might want to invest in some different tires.
