Bought this to replace an 8 year old Fedders 5200btu unit that had a bad compressor. I have a small bedroom, but strong sun from noon onwards. This caused the little Fedders to struggle to keep the room cool as I work nights. This one cools great, but daylight shines right through the vents. Seems like they used a very thin Styrofoam panel that is VERY translucent. If you work nights, like a dark room, and light sensitivity is an issue, you might want to try a different unit.

Needed to replace a bedroom A/C and very glad this unit was chosen as the one. The installation was easy and the unit is performing very well. It's very quiet and is working well in the hot, humid weather in Miami and maintaining a comfortable level of coolness. The delivery from Home Depot.com was excellent and easy. Highly recommend both Home Depot.com and this GE Air Conditioner to anyone.

Haven't seem to have sensor issues yet like other reviews but will watch for it. Cools my bedroom almost too cold at 72! Really like the Energy Saving mode, where it cools to set temp, then shuts off completely, waits for it to get about 2- 3 degrees warmer then starts again. Good for electric bill and when sleeping as you don't hear it run all night long. We are having a hot summer here and it's only June - over 100 degrees everyday for a week. This unit is perfect and I may purchase another, slightly larger one for my lving room as well. I installed it myself, pretty easy. Good value for this price.

I bought this unit for an upstairs bedroom. It was really easy to install however, it has issues with the auto temperature sensor. I had to put a piece of cardboard separating the intake vent from the output vent and it works a little better at reading the correct room temperature, otherwise it sucks the cold air back into its self and thinks its done working.I have woken up twice this week because of the heat and the unit was off and wouldn't run. You have to turn off the auto fan speed so it can suck in the room air to be able to accurately read the room temperature. It will still turn off the compressor when it thinks the room is cold but once enough room air cycles threw and it gets an accurate temperature reading it will turn back on.Once you get the thing working and don't use the auto fan speed it works well enough. It would be nice to have all the features work properly and running this way isn't going to make it as efficient as it should be.

Little a/c that really cools well. I have never tried to go below 72 degrees as it gets too cold. Cools small bedroom, hall and lowers temperature in near by large bedroom. Insulation is mostly styrofoam.I am afraid of a second 110+ degree summer and have already had to turn the unit on in May. On it's second hard summer It is noisy and has started making loud squeeling noises. I hope it holds out through the summer. So far doen't use much power, can get a room cold fast, and is programable for when you are away.

I put this is a few weeks ago, and it works great. It has no problem cooling my RV down in the 100+ degree weather.

In NM, I purchaged this product for week. It cools down small room. When AC unit temp. sensor reads 70 drgee. but room is at 78degree. That auto AC temp. sensor turns it off compressor. It can not keep auto temp. settting to cool rooms, just 3 feet area is seem monitored for temp sensor. It is best to use as on/off not using auto.I have return it. May be it is a defactive sensor?

I wrote another review when I first purchased the unit and gave it a rating of 5 stars. I did my research before going to HD and was glad they had plenty GE window a/c's in stock. It was easy to install, and is overall quiet. When I say quiet I mean machine wise. I live in an apartment building so the outside machine/vibration noise was my highest concern. From the OUTSIDE this machine is quiet, inside is a different story. The wind noise is on the loud side when set above "low", BUT i'm okay with it. It's more of "white" fan/background noise.. The air is cold, and cools a room fairly quickly. It's 88 degrees outside and my OPEN living room is 75. When I say "open" I mean there are no interior doors between my living room and kitchen OR hallways. What I found out after 2 months:I purchased the a/c in the beginning of summer (June). It's now the beginning of August and I can finally see if this a/c can hold up to this California weather. So far, so good. It cools my living room and house to a nice 75 degrees. The bad:I didn't know that there wasn't a drip hole for excess water. I found out later that this a/c uses an evaporation system to get rid of excess water from humidity. Okay sounds nice. I live in California so humid days are rare (it's pretty dry most of the summer). The past two days it's been humid, ugh, and I noticed there's water in the inside vents where the cold air comes out. It's annoying because when set to "medium" or "high" the water shoots out. I also found other people online who had the same issue, and this ONLY happens on humid days. Thankfully I'm in CA, but I wouldn't recommend if you live in a humid area. For the price and ease of installation this is a good little window a/c. Does the job quickly and efficiently. Don't buy if you live in a humid area, because water accumulate in the front interior vents and splashes out.

Was super easy to install and it works great to cool our large bedroom. The digital thermostat and energy saver mode are nice - the unit doesn't have to be constantly running to keep it cool. It's no more noisy than any other window AC unit.

Love this A/C. Have had it for 3 years now and it is still in perfect working condition. It cools my bedroom in 15 minutes and keeps it cool all day long. Love the remote as it is easy to adjust settings in the middle of the night. I would buy this A/C again.

Small 11x11 bedroom but more than enough cooling power in 100+ heat. Easy to install in aluminum sliding wndow and quiet enough to sleep with unit left on.

Learn from experience. This brand name unit cools my 200 sqft from 87 down to 75 degrees immediatally. Visual inspection out of the box gives a sense of cheaply made but the performance makes up for it. Until its time to inspect and clean the filter and you find it isn't dirty. The manufacturer produced a great machine only to design a filtration system that lets more air (and dirt) go around it than through it. No openings are sealed such as the cord. Furthermore there isn't any type of attempt to seal it up. Condensor clogs with dirt then it becomes inefficient. I sealed mine with self stick weatherstripping then cleaned it out but thats not what I paid for. When I buy my next unit, it wont be this one as I will focus more on how well it breathes.

I recently purchased this air conditioner in exchange for the size below, which was told would cool my living and dining room appx. 250 sq.ft. It took the small one 2-3 hours to cool that space. It takes this one 15-20 min. max to have a comfortable temp. I love the energy saving option, timer, remote, (it's a guy thing lol). I would buy another in a heart beat.

The unit i purchased in June worked fine until two weeks ago when it started making a squeeling noise which made it difficult to sleep. GE is in the process of replacing it but the process is cumbersome!! I have to order one and pay for it muself first and apply for a refund which may take 6-8 weeks. I have been w/o an AC for 2 weeks and another week will go by before the new unit arrives. I cannot understand why ge can't replace it in a more efficient manner w/o putting customers thru the wringer. Steve
